different?
- Locals’ individual comments to Bampton Town
Council on each planning proposal will no longer be the most effective way to
influence decision making.
- Bampton Town Council will have more difficulty
influencing planning decisions.
- Planning Officers, not Planning Committees, will
decide on simpler or smaller planning proposals.
- Local Development Plans will be the main
foundation on which planning decisions rest.
- Mid Devon’s Local Development Plan 2020-2033 has
been deemed out of date.

A 20-Year Plan for new homes, jobs, infrastructure and protecting the environment. Plus responding to climate change.
The current local plan was adopted in 2020 and has a plan period through to 2033. However, this is now five years old and many of its policies are out of date. A new local plan is needed to provide homes, jobs, infrastructure and other uses in suitable locations across the district to meet the needs of the area for the next 20 years, while responding to climate change and protecting built heritage, nature conservation interests, and protected landscapes. Devon Community Drivers wanted!
Do you want to make a meaningful difference in your community on your own terms? Are you looking for a volunteer role that fits around your lifestyle, family and work commitments?
If you have a full driving licence, are over 21 with two years’ driving experience and access to a vehicle, becoming a Devon Community Driver could be the perfect opportunity.
Devon Community Drivers, a joint project between Devon Communities Together and Devon Access to Services (DAS), is encouraging residents across Devon to become volunteer drivers and inviting Community Transport Schemes to join a new pilot programme designed to attract more volunteers.
Every year, volunteer drivers across Devon help thousands of people get where they need to be – from hospital visits and healthcare appointments to shopping trips, social groups and wellbeing activities. Last year alone, an incredible 106,561 journeys were provided by volunteers. For many people, particularly those living in rural communities, this support is essential in helping them stay independent, healthy and connected.

A new community website - Mid Devon District Council has launched.
Emergency Alerts
The new Emergency Alerts service is now live. The system
will enable people to be contacted via their mobile phone if their lives are at
risk in an emergency. The service will be used to warn you about
life-threatening emergencies such as severe flooding.
Emergency Alerts are messages sent to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones when there’s a danger to your life, health or property in the area you’re located. They don’t need your location or phone number. Only the government and the emergency services can send them. If you don’t have a mobile, you’ll still be kept informed through other channels.
If you get an Emergency Alert on your phone, you’ll hear a loud, siren-like sound. A message on your screen will tell you about the emergency and how best to respond. You’ll be able to check an alert is genuine too.

Fly Tipping
Fly tipped waste is not only illegal but it can be unsightly and dangerous. It is an offence for any person to leave refuse or litter in areas unlawfully and offenders will be liable to prosecution.

There
are now 3 defibrillators in Bampton town, all in unlocked boxes, registered
with the Ambulance circuit and readily accessible should you need to find one.

Somerset Sight
Somerset Sight was founded in 1919 to support people with sight loss in Somerset. Due to the way Devon and Somerset are closely linked with the border snaking around places like Bampton and Dulverton, there are many people who live on the border who would love someone to visit them to chat with, maybe take them on a trip, or help with correspondence.
Therefore, they are looking for people to become a volunteer visitor who might have some spare time, just one hour a week or every two weeks, to be individually matched with a sight impaired person near Bampton or a short drive away.
